New Marker, New Curriculum, New Exhibits

We're excited to share several important updates in our efforts to preserve and highlight the history of Denver’s AANHPI community.

Historical Marker Reinstalled:
We’re Back! Thanks to the generous support of our community, our missing Historical Chinatown marker has been reinstalled! After its disappearance last year, the marker has returned to its rightful place, ensuring this vital piece of history remains visible. Although we’re thrilled with this progress, we are still $2,000 away from our fundraising goal. Your support can help us reach the finish line! We have received a generous offer to match all donations up to $1,000, this is an opportunity to double your donations — donate today.

New Curriculum Launched:
We’re proud to announce the release of our first curriculum set focusing on the contributions of Asian and Asian American communities in Colorado. Starting with the Chinese community, this 4th-grade curriculum offers adaptable lesson plans for various grade levels, emphasizing local history that often goes untold.

Upcoming Exhibition at History Colorado:
Colorado Asian Pacific United collaborated with History Colorado and CU Denver’s College of Architecture and Planning to bring Where is Denver’s Chinatown? Stories Remembered, Reclaimed, Reimagined to life. This exhibition explores the history and resilience of Denver’s Chinatown, ensuring that this vital part of the city’s past is remembered and honored. The exhibition will be on view at History Colorado from October 9, 2024, through August 9, 2025, the exhibition features stories from the AANHPI community, highlighting the voices that shaped and continue to shape Denver’s Chinatown. Learn more about visiting the exhibition at History Colorado’s website.

New Traveling Exhibition Debut:
We are thrilled to launch our 8-panel traveling exhibition, inspired by traditional Chinese laundry drying racks, which honors Denver’s early Chinese immigrants. This pop-up exhibit tells the story of Denver’s Chinatown through the voices of the AANHPI community, connecting the past and future. The exhibit debuts at the Where is Denver’s Chinatown? opening on October 9 at History Colorado.
